1. SITTING ON THE BACK PORCH either early in the morning to have my coffee or late in the afternoon. I've made it like an extra room in the house with pretty plants and tomatoes I'm growing for my mom. The cats gather around, and we enjoy watching the birds and squirrels.
2. SWIMMING early in the morning at the gym. It's just mid-June and already the water feels like bath water, but it's so relaxing. I have friends there too, and that makes it even more fun. Swim before dawn and no one can see what you look like. lol
3. LONG DAYS thanks to Daylight Savings Time. I leave the cats outside until dark and then they sleep all night without waking me up too early in the morning. I'm lucky that I have a big yard and live on a dead end street. No worries about traffic.
4. FRESH VEGETABLES at my local farmers' market. I've been visiting it quite often and have enjoyed fresh corn, peaches, yellow squash, cucumbers, etc. I'm trying to eat more veggies, and having such delicious ones so close makes it easier.
5. MORE TIME TO WRITE thanks to a more relaxed schedule, and maybe because I've finally decided to just relax and enjoy the summer. I can do without the 97 degree temperatures, but otherwise it's been pretty fun.
What do you like about summer? Do you write more then, or do you write less?

Sounds like a beautiful life, and I love the photo.
As for summer and writing. I'm writing less because I'm running errands in the morning before it gets hot. While Nashville isn't considered the Deep South, it still gets pretty hot and muggy as the attendees of CMA Music Fest can attest.
Are you eating bon bons???LOL.
I hear you about the relaxing summer days. I live in Texas and we have that Deep south heat, also. The difference is I love it. I have a pool and can jump in anytime.
Now if I only had great hair and didn't look like a skinned coat when I get out!
Wonderful relaxing blog, Melanie.
Pretty flower, Mel. I'm a Spring and Fall kind-of-girl, but like you, I love the benefits of summer...the veggies, the fruits, the long-days. Do I write more in the summer? Hmm. I've never really thought about it. I am writing more this summer, even though I seem to be busier. Go figure.
What about RWA Nationals?
That's summer fun isn't it?
And I hear you about the heat in the DS. 105 heat index today in Pensacola!
Maybe it will make the love scenes that much hotter!
lol True about the love scenes, Laura. Thanks for the comments, everyone! We just had a thunderstorm that obliterated the heat. The temp dropped from 95 to 75 in a matter of minutes. Yay!
What I like about summer--I live in Texas, and if you'd like to compare temperatures, we could do that! I used to play a lot a golf, but not anymore--more than one reason--so I don't get outside much in the summer. What I like about summer? Air conditioning, fewer clothes to wear and wash, my screened-in porch much like yours but only in the morning or late afternoon,no responsbibilities I have during the rest of the year, I can go barefoot in the house all day, summer flowers and flowering crepe myrtles, tiny fawns wobbling along after their mothers in my yard, fresh vegetables from my neighbors garden, "real tomatoes," and I could go on and on. You have a lovely list, too. Celia
I'm a summer person, too/ I love the long days. I love the daylight. It is HOT today, but I don't care. No more beach days and such, but evenings at the beach are nice.
Actually, watching the kids on my street play outside is a treat. It reminds me of growing up when playing outside was a kid's job. Ice cream tastes best in the summer.
Melanie - love that gorgeous photo, too.
I live in Southwest. With 100-plus- degree temperatures pretty much guaranteed now through September, I can't say the weather is one of the things I like.
More time to write is #1 on my list of what I do like--especially since I'm home from the day job. ;-)

I love summer as my writing time. It's too hot outside (105 right now in Phoenix Arizona) but my husband works longer hours when the days are longer, so I have peace in the house to write.
