I can breathe easier. I’ve recently signed a new contract for a romantic suspense novella with The Wild Rose Press. Whew! A new contract after three years. It feels good to have a new book out there.
It may seem that I’m not prolific as the reason for the three-year stretch. True, I’m not a fast writer. However, since my last contract with The Wild Rose Press, I’ve written the novella, two complete novels (unsold) and numerous short stories. I’ve also started and abandoned two novels. I may pick one of them up again soon. I’ve been successful with my short stories, and they keep me in the game. The novella took me only four months to write, a record for me. Thankfully, it will be released for others to read, and I hope enjoy.
As writers know, it can take a year or two for a completed book to see the publishing light. One of my unsold novels is dead in the water. It has too many problems to fix. The other novel has possibilities, but it has been languishing at a major house for over a year now. I’ve called them three times, but can’t get anyone there to tell me the status. I’m assuming it’s a rejection. So, I will revise it and submit elsewhere. As you can see, there can be long stretches between contracts, and not always the writer’s doing.
I don’t want to dwell on the as-yet unsold novel. I want to celebrate my new contract. My novella, “Murder, Mi Amore,” is tentatively scheduled for release in December 2010. I love the cover, which I’ve posted here. I love the story. Here is a little information to tease you:
Lexie Cortese is in Rome to forget. The last thing she expects is to meet a sexy Interpol agent who suspects her of being part of a terrorist plot involving a stolen diamond. Suddenly thrust into a world of murders, muggings, and kidnappings, Lexie doesn’t know what to think—or who to believe.
Dominic Brioni’s assignment is simple. Befriend the American and bring her to justice. Only Lexie seems like the most unlikely terrorist Dominic has ever met. Sweet, determined, and direct, she faces life with courage and fire, a fire that sparks his protective instincts and a longing for something more—something he allowed himself to hope for only once before.
But that woman betrayed him, and his boss isn’t about to let him forget it. With his career on the line and Lexie in danger, will Dominic learn to trust his heart before they both get killed?

Congrats on the new contract. It sounds like a great story. Sexy Interpol agent--what more could you want?
Marie-Nicole,
Thanks for stopping by, as always. Yes, what more do you want than a sexy Interpol agent? I do like my Dominic.
Congrats on the new contract. I was right there with you on having book after book written and nothing. We'll celebrate together!
